Fourteen local artists will display their work during an upcoming exhibition at a new Detroit gallery.
“Buy This So We Don’t Have to Rob You: Vol. 8” will kick off with an opening celebration at 6 p.m. December 18 at Mosaic Productions Gallery, 15531 Mack Avenue in Detroit; admission is free. The exhibition will continue through the end of the month.
The exhibition will include sculpture by Michele Crimi of Detroit; mixed media art by Amanda Barker of Berkley; acrylic and gesso designs by Emily Whitehead of Dearborn; photography by Tracey Tilley of Detroit, Kim Hoxworthy of Detroit and Dennis O’Reilly of Hazel Park; paintings by Nick Seluk of Berkley, Heather Whitehead of Westland, Anthony Adams of Detroit, Charlie Matt of Dearborn, Lisa Krug of Detroit, Samuel Seed of Mount Clemens, Brian Hamlin of Detroit and Chris Reno of Dearborn; All will be in attendance at the opening.
Founded by Whitehead in May 2008, “Buy This So We Don’t Have to Rob You” regularly presents exhibitions at Detroit-area bars and restaurants, displaying and selling artwork created using a variety of media.
“’Buy This So We Don't Have to Rob You’ is comprised of artists specializing in a wide range of disciplines. What unifies us is our irreverent attitudes and our incorrigible drive to create,” said Whitehead. “A lot of amazing work is produced in the metro Detroit area. I think it's important we do everything we can to support local artists. Otherwise, they will continue to migrate elsewhere. Our group's work is cheap; the openings are fun; and, even if you don’t buy anything, I promise we won't rob you if you make the effort to come out.”
